The Montsant D.O. has a varied terrain, uneven and steep in some places and smooth and gentle in others. Its soils (which can be divided into three groups: calcareous, granite and slate) have a rich range of origins and compositions, producing mineralised wines with a high alcohol content.
Quality wines that are born in vineyards on mountains of conglomerate rock, holm oak and white pine forests, and above all, agricultural soils tinted with the typical Mediterranean crops: almonds, grapevines and olives. Within this framework, three landscape units of very distinct agricultural interest must be added, which are the Plains, the High Plains and the Valleys. The variety: this is the secret of the Terra Alta!
The Catalunya D.O. runs from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean, passing through an endless succession of different climates and subsoils on its way. It has a wide range of different varieties as well as wineries that are becoming more and more professional, with advanced technology that allows the creation of high quality wines at attractive prices.
From the Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada grapes, these sparkling wines are made using the renowned traditional method of fermenting the wine a second time in the bottle. They are aged for a minimum of nine months in underground caves, in silence and absolute tranquillity. The Cava D.O. includes production regions across the whole peninsula, with a large concentration in the Penedés sub-zone.
